Microsoft is planning on making the source code to all versions of Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003 available as well as all of the service packs. Let's just say that things are really going to get interesting after they do...

Surely there are humanitarian guidelines against that sort of thing.

Some 1,200 of Microsoft's MVPs will be eligible for the Windows source code, and Microsoft expects about 20 percent of them to take advantage of the offer, which would be a higher number than for any of its other programs, he said.

240 people get to look at ONE HUNDRED MILLION lines of code! That's almost 50 thousand lines of code for each eye.

Its always fun to remind yourself what Shared Source really is.

On one hand, I think people will first look into code that's giving them problems. So yes, likely a few bugs will get squashed because of this program.

OTOH... how many people of Microsoft have worked on the code to create it in the first place? Surely that's far more than the 240 outsiders that are going to look into it?
